Introduction:

The Diabetes Centre was established in April 2009 after the approval of the Committee of the Czech Diabetes Society. The center is a specialized in providing comprehensive care for patients with diabetes mellitus, including disorders associated with metabolism and nutrition (including diagnosis, prevention and therapies).

We provide both inpatient and outpatient care.

The center is using 5 beds of the Metabolic Intensive Care Unit (A7 building, ground floor) and 8 diabetes beds of the Department Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Metabolism (A7 building, 2nd floor).

The outpatient department consists of outpatient diabetes care, highly specialized educational center, podiatry clinic, clinic for nutritional and metabolic diseases and dietetic clinic.

The center closely cooperates with other specialized departments (particularly with the units of the Internal Clinic, Department of Neurology, Department of Psychology and the Department of Ophthalmology).

The Diabetes Centre provides undergraduate education of students of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Prague and postgraduate education of physicians (whitin their preparation for attestation in the field diabetology).

In the action plan of the Diabetes Centre (in cooperation with the Department of Gastroenterology) there is an initiation and development of research projects.
